Suspect blames thefts, chases on drugs | News
REIDSVILLE, GA (WTOC)- A magistrate judge denied Chad Dasher bond on 23 charges surrounding a string of house burglaries and car thefts in Tattnall County. Authorities say they are not sure of the number of charges that are still pending from other counties.
U.S. Marshals captured Dasher in Florida last week, hiding in a car reported stolen from Tattnall County. It was the latest in a two week string of car thefts and burglaries in the area. Deputies in Tattnall, Evans and other counties searched in vain for Dasher as they claimed he hid in woods and escaped in stolen car after stolen car.
Judge Eddie Anderson informed Dasher he faced 13 felonies and 10 misdemeanor charges in Tattnall County. During the hearing, Dasher told the judge and the deputies escorting him to the courthouse he stole things he hoped to pawn in order to buy more drugs.
As he was returned to jail after the hearing, Dasher offered an apology to those affected by the crimes.
"I'm sorry to the community for putting them through this. I'm sorry to my family for what I've done. I mean it.," he said. He also urged anyone listening to avoid the addiction of drugs.
Dasher will remain in the Tattnall County Jail. His attorney's next option would be to request bond in Superior Court.
