VIDALIA, GA (WTOC) - Delicious Vidalia onions are about to show up in grocery stores. Thursday is the first day growers can ship them.
Governor Joe Frank Harris signed a bill 22 years ago today, designating the Vidalia onion as Georgia's official state vegetable. The southern delicacy can only be grown in 20 counties where the soil gives the onions that sweet flavor.
Vidalia onions are available in stores through September.
